Mireille Pasquer

Executive Director

What’s your passion for teaching? Teaching is an opportunity for me to learn and to be in awe of the creative processes that we go through as humans. It also allows me to see the joy in children and the curiosity they embody.

As a director, I can use the knowledge that I have in education to continue to create community by being present to families , understand their needs and advocate for them in as many ways that I can.

Liz Beckwith

Founder/CFO

What’s your passion for teaching? Teaching is a lifelong process, and having the opportunity to provide young kids with the chance to find that passion for learning through childhood curiosity and play is highly fulfilling to be a part of.

Every day at Cubs, I work to ensure each child can be a part of our play- and nature-focused community.

About the Founders

Liz Beckwith

Liz has been working in the education industry for the last decade. She has worked as a director at Ajax Adventure Camp for the last seven years. Initially, her responsibilities focused primarily on program development and direct staff supervision. Over the years, her role expanded to become the sole year-round director for Ajax Adventure Camp to ensure all aspects of the camp operation run smoothly. Some of her responsibilities included leading the childcare licensing, permitting, staff hiring, onboarding, training, day-to-day operations, payroll, and program development, to name a few

In addition to her work with Ajax Adventure Camp, Liz has extensive work experiences in the childcare industry. She has run an after-school program for school-aged children, been a nanny for an infant, worked as a child snowboard instructor, volunteered at Children's Mini College in Glenwood Springs, and shadowed many classrooms in the Roaring Fork area. Overall, these experiences have solidified her love for working with children and helping them discover their passions inside and outside of the classroom.

Following her passion, in 2021 Liz completed her Master’s degree in Adventure Education from Prescott College to further her education in the childcare industry.  In addition to her Master's, she has received her Wilderness First Responder and PCIA climbing instructor certification.

Danny Hundert

Danny, a Dartmouth and University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Business MBA graduate, founded Ajax Adventure Camp, Ajax Sleepaway, and Ivy Camps USA.  At Ivy Camps, Danny helps provide year-round educational programming for children in over 40 countries by partnering with schools, governments, and other academic providers.  With over 20 years of experience in building and advising educational operations across the world, Danny has built a wealth of experience and knowledge in starting, building, and growing educational organizations in a variety of settings. The Aspen Chamber of Commerce awarded Ajax Adventure Camp ‘The 2013 Business of the Year’ and ‘The 2016 Entrepreneur of the Year’ was awarded to Danny for the positive impact Ivy Camps continues to have on children's lives. He is passionate about connecting kids around the world to learn about different cultures while also cultivating soft skills such as leadership, problem-solving, and above all else: self-discovery.

Oliver Umpleby

Oliver has worked as a leader in the childcare industry in variety of roles for businesses throughout the country. He has served as the Co-Director of Ajax Adventure Camp in Aspen for the last 6 years. He began his career in childcare industry on the east coast as a summer camp Program Director, providing foundational programming for children ages 8-15 and has continued his growth in administrative roles for the past decade for two separate institutions. He has dedicated over a decade to coaching high school athletes, giving back to the community to encourage and empower the next generation. For the past 5 seasons, he has coached the Aspen High School football team. He also teaches skiing for the Ski and Snowboard schools of Aspen Skiing Company, working with guests from all over the world and also training Ski Co instructors. Outside of these primary roles, Oliver has volunteered as a little league baseball coach and is motivated to positively impact youth of all ages in the community. He is further motivated to solve the challenges currently facing the childcare industry in the Roaring Fork Valley.

Combined Experience

Combined, Danny, Oliver, and Liz's experience are an excellent mixture for starting businesses, developing programming, and operating a sustainable meaningful organization. They have collectively led a wide variety of childcare organizations; their experience serves as an asset to meet the needs of the children attending Ajax Cubs. Additionally, their collective experience within the Aspen community is wholly unique. They have all actively worked in the Aspen childcare industry for over a decade forming both important connections and a community understanding that can only be garnered through years of hands-on work and experience.
